“Council of Elders”
This mandala was completed over 3 days in 2021, bringing with it a message that would prove to be a much needed and grounding force in our current time, as the power structures in our world have become increasingly imbalanced and chaotic.
I thought it was complete once the central stone circle was surrounded by the mountain ash leaves, but it had more to say, and sent me on a quest over the following two days to gather over 70 tiny triangular rocks (plus four hearts if you can find them) on my morning wanders.
Once they came into play, I understood.
True power holds great wisdom at its center, and as it is benevolently shared, it’s influenced by all who participate in its ongoing evolution.
Wisdom is a co-creation that draws on, honours and includes the unique experience and mattering of all beings.
The attempt to hold power at the top and impose it upon others is destined to fail, but when wisdom permeates the space, the true order of relationship is restored—and magic becomes inevitable.

This red dog accompanied me in the creation of over 100 mandalas in the last 13 months of her life, and brought her steadfast presence and clear guidance to each and every one.
*Magic sighting: This appeared in my feed this morning, the day after publishing this specific Mandala which has been in the wings for 5 years:
“An elder cares for the Soul of the world by defending and nurturing the innocence and wonder of children, mentoring early adolescents, guiding late adolescents on the journey of soul initiation, mentoring adults in their soul work, supporting the evolution of the culture, and maintaining the balance between the human village and the greater Earth community.
The latter two roles are enacted not individually but communally — by councils of elders. Such councils are what healthier communities have instead of politicians.” - Bill Plotkin

This is the beast of perfectionism: you chase yourself in circles, certain that 3 more hours spent tweaking that thing that is not yet the very best it can be is how you will be able to relax and trust you’re okay in the world.
The creative process requires you to commit to the liminal space between the known and the not-yet-manifest, and demands you surrender control. But first ~ procrastination.
We live in a culture that supports and encourages the ideal of self-sufficiency, and most of us spend our lives striving for it. It’s a myth, and believing it comes with a steep price.
For all that beauty gives, it invites us to bring something of ourselves in return, because this kind of magic is a two-way street. I like to think of this list as an inside track to wonder...
